Supermarine Speed Spitfire 1:32 by Marsh Models Aerotech
Work on a special streamlined Supermarine Spitfire started in early 1938 with an early production model modified with the removal` of all armaments, shortened wing tips and a small capacity fuel tank. The target was a word speed record in level flight which had to be conducted at low altitude. The target was 379 mph set by a Messerschmitt Bf109 in November 1937 but by the time the aircraft was completed the Germans had raised the bar further to 396mph. In early flights the Speed Spitfire managed 408 mph but within weeks both Heinkel and Messerschmitt had upped the ante by another 10% and the project was abandoned. Marsh has modelled this unique machine well with fine resin castings for the bulks of the components. There is some flash to clean off but no evidence of any bubbles or pinholes, so preparation should be straightforward. Several sheets of brass etch include plenty of cockpit detail and clearly printed decals finish things off.

Very well cast multi-media aircraft kits. 1:32nd scale concentrating on racing aircraft and 1:72nd on Axis fighters which didn't make it off the drawing board at the end of WW2. typical kit contents will see resin for the main fuselage and wings, with a mix of resin and white metal for small parts and thoughtful use of photo-etch, such as surface radiators and wing bracing wires on many of the Schneider trophy subjects. Made in England.
