Bugatti T57C 1st Le Mans 1939 #1 Wimille/Veyron 1:18 by Spark

The majority of Spark’s Le Mans winners, whether in 1:18 or 1:43, are of post-war cars so this Bugatti and the similar machine that won in 1937 (SPK18LM037) make a bit of a change. The main body finish is deliberately dull to be more in keeping with the period and as usual we see very deep crisp panel lines and neatly applied details such as etched stone guards and various hollow intakes. The wire wheels are very finely made with etched spokes in front of aluminium brake drums and underneath there is a fair level of chassis detailing too, with suspension, differential and full length exhaust system all visible. It’s the weathering in the cockpit that’s the stand out detail for us though, with wear marks on the floor from the drivers’ feet and a seat that really looks as if it’s been sat in for many miles in all weather. Hopefully Spark will eventually turn their attention to other pre-war winners in this scale, if they do and they’re anything like this they will be very impressive.

About Spark

The range which changed the 1:43 model market and for which we coined the term 'resincast'. Resin rather than traditional diecast bodies mean that relatively short production runs can be made and what might be marginal subjects become viable. Quality is very consistent with plenty of fine etch used where necessary. A huge range is the result, covering all aspects of (mostly postwar) motorsport and a wide variety of road cars. We typically see around 30 new subjects released per month and pre-orders are strongly recommended. Made in China & Madagascar.
