As we mentioned when we looked at the kits in the last issue, not all of these options are available to build yourself due to subtle changes in sponsorship between the drivers at some races, but looking through the race photos and the finished models, SMTS have pulled them all off well with the hand builts as they had all the decals at their disposal, being able to mix and match on occasion. Looking through the race photos they’ve done well in terms of decal placement and general decoration and the models are well built for the most part, though slightly annoying, a few have small feed tags on the etched wing endplates that should have been filed off before painting. Something we hopefully won’t see on future deliveries. It’s fair to say that these cars didn’t set the timing screens alight during the 1983 season, with best results being fifth for Surer at Long Beach, seventh for Serra in Monaco and ninth for Boutsen in Germany. The reason for so many variants on the models is that the sponsorship changed often and this makes for a set of very diverse looking subjects.
