Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Roadster 1961 by SMTS
The first racing E Types were production models and the cars made their competition debut at Oulton Park in 1961 with Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori at the wheels. Hill’s car was entered by Equipe Endeavour and painted dark blue while Salvadori’s was a grey Coombes car wearing the famous registration BUY 1. Hill won on the car’s debut and Salvadori had to settle for third when his brakes went off late in the race. The difference between the two kits is the decals, the first offering the number plates for the original pre-launch press car 77 RW and the second those first two racers. The components themselves are very well cast and look to be nicely proportioned. For those wishing to build the Hill car a small modification will be needed to the front bumpers, which need the over-riders removing, but SMTS tell us that future kits will be updated with extra corrected parts.
